上週二大除夕在家看了《The Amazing Race 6》第 11 集。這個遊戲主要是一大班一對對的參賽者每集都要用自己方法到達指定的地方取得指示到另一地方，而每集結束時最遲到達的一對參賽者就會被淘汰。本身我一向對這節並不太有興趣，不過這一集的活動地方主要在我國最國際化的大都會及香港最大的競爭者 - 上海，所以特別留意。

一開始四對參賽者就分別坐飛機由斯里蘭卡(Sri Lanka) 經香港飛到上海。其中一隊因為沒有在香港換錢，結果要在上海機場的找換店兌換人民幣。有趣的是他們看到人民幣的符號(￥)，誤叫”Yen”。而最引起我注意的是所有參賽者無論在機場和市內在找『的士』(Taxi) 方面都有很大的問題，很多 Taxi 都拒載。而在市內要找到會英語或肯幫忙的人亦很困難，大部份市民一見他們走近都走開，其中有位參賽者甚至為此大發雷霆。在全國出名最國際化的大都會出現這情況確實令我有點意外。 (下集要經西安，情況可能更糟) 我一路想，如果他們在香港比賽，情況會否不同呢？

四年前，我曾到過上海公幹，對上海印象還不錯。很有香港感覺，我幾個人傾談，發覺英語水平不比香港差。然而這個節目後，我倒要對上海重新估計。(上海的朋友看到請不要介意 )

去年年初，香港生產力促局做了個有關 Open Source 的統計調查，問過 HKLUG 的意見，我當時和 Sammy 代表 HKLUG 去和他們談過。當中他們問我們認為香港可以在 Open Source 搞什麼？我打趣地提出 2003 年 SARS 事件證明香港一直都是最佳的轉口貿易港。SARS 在 2002 年 11 到 2003 年 2 、 3 月幾個月間在廣東一帶都影響有限，直至到香港後，未經淘大就由威爾斯親王醫院在短短一兩週間傳到美國、加拿大、台灣、新加玻、泰國、日本甚至北京和上海等，幾乎把香港對外的貿易圖都繪了出來。連 SARS 名字都明顯因香港特別行政區 (HKSAR) 之名而設。如果當時 SARS 沒有來香港，情況肯定會改寫。

有趣的是去年 Samba 之父 Andrew Tridgell 來港為 HKLUG 講了兩個講座，當中他曾提到 Samba 支援亞洲語言的一個問題。Samba 一直都欠缺亞洲籍的協力或開發者，幾年前曾有日本的參予者，不過後來因為一些言語上的衝突而離開。外國人在討論事時往往不會有太多忌諱，吵一大輪完畢後就大家朝著議定好的方向去做。不過這種對事不對人的作風在亞洲人 (尤其中國人) 反而引起很多誤解 (想起柏楊的《醜陋的中國人》)。中國人太講『禮貌』，太講臉子了。然而香港人不會好很多，但其實又或者多少可以在這方面做點事。

週二同時看到新聞提到美國馬里蘭州(Maryland)有一間幼稚園上課教小朋友說普通話。留意這版小朋友並非ABC，而是明顯的白種小朋友。他們上到小學後，數學及一些科目就會用中文教學。他們發覺這班用中文教數學的學生，成績明顯比其他學校學生優異。 (事實上很多人都指出中文在科學這類科目有優勢) 他們的父母表示送他們的子女來這間學校的主要原因是看準中國近年的發展，會中文對其子女往後發展很有幫助。

連老外都這麼努力，香港人確實要加把勁！^^;

2 years ago, Mr. Takazawa (高澤真治), the president of OSDL JP, had visited Hong Kong and help us for a talk in LinuxTalk July 2002. OSDL is not yet so famous at that time and we didn’t have much experience to promote such a big event. However, we still got around 100 audiences attend that LinuxTalk. (I always think we did pretty bad on inviting guest and contacting media at that event. sigh…..) Mr. Takazawa is really nice that hired a japanese-cantonese translator for that event. We didn’t know that til that morning but help much for the event. Unfortunately, it also fail some foreigner audiences who expect he would speak in english.

I mention that coz Mr. Takazawa had talk about an interesting thing about Hacker during the talk. Sure, the hacker he mean are not computer crimials said by stupid mass media but the real meaning - real computer expert. Mr. Takazawa stated that “eight-nine” (八九) pronounced similar to “Hacker” in japanese (”eight” pronounce as “Hashi”, “nine” pronounce as “Kyu/Ku/Kono”. Indeed, I can’t remeber that clearly. Correct me if anyone can recall it). “Eight nine”, thousand milion minus one, seems indicated that you can only find one real hacker per thousand milion people. Therefore, Hacker is so precious that Japan can only got one or two (Japan got around 1200 milion people) and we might find more then 10 in China.

It’s had be over 10 years I last watch The Phantom of the Opera. I even seen twice when they came to Hong Kong. But indeed, I’m not pretty touch by this Musical esp. I watch Les Miserable later. I don’t enjoy the song The Phantom of the Opera coz it use to much electronic music. The only song in the Musical still mark in my heart up to now is The Music of the Night. The original theatre version was perform only by Phantom but I found one from Gnuella which performed by both Phantom (Michael Crawford) and Christine (Barbara Streisand) is really excellent.

最近 GNUStep 推出了 0.9.4 版的 Live CD 。這個經歷近十年開發，這個令人引頸而待又艱巨的自由軟件計劃終於接近 1.0 。GNUStep 就是一個完全以 GNU GPL 發行的 OpenStep ，亦即是 Steve Jobs 當年精心傑作 NeXT 電腦的作業系統 NeXTStep 的開放版本。一個曾被評最 OO 、最理想的軟件開發環境，就連全球首個 WWW 瀏覽器亦是在 NeXTStep 上開發出來。

另外 GNUStep 為推廣 GNUStep ，亦製作了一套示範如何在 GNUStep 上開軟件的短片。

I can’t help to say Google really rules!

After the Orkut (which I haven’t login for long but it really provide a great to me and my friends), Gmail (It’s not only the size but also its great interface and Google quality search services) and Google Print, We now have now Google Scholar and Google Map.

Google Map is not yet useful to me now coz it provide only US Maps. But I will happen if it can provide Europe and Asia map some day later.

Google Scholar seems like a subset service of Google Search but it help me to spot on some valuable presentation/article/paper/publication when I want to do some research, writing a paper or presentation slide.

Besides, glad to hear that Google Donating Bandwidth and Servers to Wikipedia.

近期『官商鈎結』成為香港社會最熱門的話題。或者需先聲明我對這話題的立場。『官商鈎結』這詞可能過於嚴重，但香港政府一直都偏坦商界是不爭的事實。遇然看見報紙及電視的歪理也令我不禁無名火起。在商言商，我也明白不少高級行政人員的苦況。但最受不了的是一大堆公式化的自辯外，還加上一些恐嚇、扺毁及偽善，絕對令人作嘔。批評全球貧富縣殊竟位列第三的香港為全中國最共產的地方，大裁員仍以捐助數千萬辯稱自己是最好的『公民』，哈！

說實，我一直對『創富』二字頗不屑。當然或者可以說我從來都沒有能力和這二字沾上邊兒。然而，『創富』就等於在一個小小的沙池上不斷將池上的沙堆在一起成為高高的沙塔。沙只有那麼多。沙池上的大部份地方只會越來越少沙，而坐上高塔的人只有極少數。最有趣的是誰都知堆沙塔最終會倒，但沙塔上的人只會永遠向上堆，甚至把地基中的沙都挖出來。一個結果只有全輸的遊戲，偏偏這麼多人熱充去玩或者被迫去玩，多有趣的世界。

一個連基本社會知覺都沒有的商人其實和毒瘤有何分別呢？哈，或者他以為當一個身體死了還可以轉寄到另一個身體。然而他沒真的從來沒有意識到人類社會早就在刀鋒邊緣？或者應該說人類在上個世紀已經把自己逃離滅絕的最後一個機會都放棄了。

結果花了半小時間為 HKLUG 做了個紅當當的新年 theme，不太美，不過我也不想花太多時間，反正只是用幾天罷了。

我最近頗留意一個電視節目 - 有線電視台的《60分鐘玄機透視》。這個節目主要是每週邀請一名藝人或者近其在港蠻活躍的人仕上鏡，分享其半生遭遇，並嘗試從玄學角度探討個中關聯。說實，我一向對玄學抱有頗大保留態度，初時亦對此興趣不大。不過偶然看了幾段，發覺其實節目很多時都變成一班藝人分享自己奮鬥經過，曲折的人生遭遇，個中領悟出來的處世哲學。細看之下，有時亦會從中學到不少東西。

這一週邀請了陳欣健上來，其中有一段令我印像頗深刻。陳欣健的經歷也蠻多枝多彩，由警察出身，做到警司的級別，突然走去寫劇本拍電影，接著做司儀、演員，然後又做了唱片公司和電台的高級行政人員。陳欣健在節目中提在轉入華星唱片公司和新城電台 (我也在新城電台做過一段很短的時間，不過那時陳欣健早已離開) 時曾遇過一些問題。他以往在警隊的工作總是將黑和白，對與錯分的很清楚。做監製時發現灰的東西在這世界原來佔大多數，但因為角色不同，亦未有太大問題。到成了一間公司的管理層，就必需要有很大的轉變。當面對一些同事的紛爭，重點並不是去分對錯，因為他的角色應該是去解決問題，調停紛爭。陳更笑言分對錯亦留給法官去做。

這份經驗看似簡單，但做起來毫不容易。在這裡提出來，一是因為日前和一位朋友對有關 HKLUG 事上處理手法有不同意見，二來也想撿討一下自己一直以來的處世態度。

和很多人一樣，我被教育去分對錯，執著於黑白。仲使我很早在理性上已知道這種二元論的荒謬，更曾自封為一個相對主義者，但始終無法擺脱這種非黑即白的思維方式，因為它早已植根於我思考方式深處。

一直被人批評處事固執、專橫、吹毛求疵、過度完美主義、脾氣差、主觀、自我中心等等。事實上，我亦多次提到我從沒有想成為領袖的意欲。我並非全無虚榮感，但我很清楚虚榮背後要付出的代價。加上作為一個一直只是自己跟自己工作的自閉狂，我很清楚自己絕對是一個極差的領袖。預期背上自己能力以上的重擔，倒不如做個二流的協力者，還可以落得逍遙自在。然而感受到 RMS 愚公移山的堅毅和認同自由軟件背後的資訊及知識分享自由化精神，我甘於也樂於把我大部份精力及時間放在這方面，享受成為個中的一個小齒輪。

不過命運的作弄下 (或者應是我的處理失當下) ，我被迫要背負很多人的期望。這段其間我的事業亦有很大轉變，亦經歷了很多事。如果說那年是我幸運之年，我得說我為這些幸運亦付出沉重的代價。我被迫重新改變我固有的價值觀，其間亦令很多人失望，亦曾傷害了不少人。當然我亦不諱言我亦享受這段其間的付出，因為我同樣會為自己突破能力間限而感到自豪，亦珍惜這段其間每一刻對我自己的磨練。

學會有時是需要當仁不讓，勇於承擔責任，學會當你知道自己不是一個好領袖，你就應該努力學會成為一個好領袖。然而一切都只是一個開端，我踏出了第一步，但前面仍有漫漫長路。我性格上的缺點再一次一次為我帶來挫折、失敗。當中，我亦多次豫疑、迷失。我不明白做好一件事有什麼問題？我不明白對一件事盡責有何問題？我不明白別人為何總要挑掦你一些無謂小錯？我錯以為只要自己付出真誠侍人，就會得到認同。我錯以為所有人都要欣賞勇於承擔的人。我錯以為我對自由軟件的熱誠可以感染身邊的朋友。我錯以為有很多事可以放手交給善長的人去做。我錯以為我不再孤軍作戰。一次又一次地揣摩錯誤自己的職責和所擔任的角色。一次又一次地誤信一些明知的虚偽吹棒。一次又一次地被似是而非的意見令自己嵌入困惑和豫疑。一次又一次地因過份投入而忘記重點。一次又一次地以為『多做多錯，小做小錯，不做不錯』只是庸人的哲學。一次又一次地和別人在是非問題上據理力爭。哈！一堆堆的天真無知，一堆堆的失算及豫疑，為我帶來一堆堆的惡果和傷痕。

當然這一切一切都怪不了別人，只怪自己離滿師還有很遙遠的路。只怪自己沒有天份，只有用一道道傷痕去警醒自己。不幸地，我再次認識到我仍要和「固執」互相扶持一段長時間，因為我總是分不出「固執」和「堅毅」，因為未能好好處理別人的批評，因為總是未能分開「三思」和「豫疑」。而經驗一次又一次教訓我只要有一刻豫疑，就要面對沉重的失敗和後悔。

一堆堆的失算及豫疑在這年又再為我帶來一堆堆的難題。最有趣的是我這次要面對不少無謂的批評和誤解。有人認為我沒有盡力去維護一個所謂朋友，沒有『公平』對待他而對我表示強烈不滿。最可笑是我事實上為維護這個所謂朋友，已付不少時間和精神。或者我最差的是從來不喜高調自己努力，而實際上我很清楚高調處理事件只會帶來更大的惡果。批評別人往往也找出自己的問題容易，軟弱的人往往比堅強的人更易取得更多憐憫和關心。對這些無理的中傷，我只會輕笑冷對。反正我問心無愧，而認清問題重點的人多的是。

另一個今我頗失望的是不少人對我有意重振 HKLUG 大潑冷水。我很理解這班人對 HKLUG 的失望。但人各有志是不爭的事實，我亦沒有強迫過任何人跟隨我的理念去做。最令我失望是有人竟然『提醒』我 HKLUG 只是一個虚名。我不明白他有此一提有何用意，只慨嘆我七丶八年來為 HKLUG 勞碌奔波，在旁人眼中一個為爭虚名的蠢材，哈！無奈亦只有接受。

其實我必需要多謝這些中傷和冷諷，因為他們加強我的決心，試練了我的堅忍。 ;-P

It’s seems that I had metion my favorite HK actor/actress but seldom talk about western actor/actress. Their name pop up in my mind suddently tonight, so let talk about them. May be I shouldn’t distinguish actor and actress, sounds like a bit sexual discrimination. Umm… But I always separate them when they popup in my mind. (Political Incorrect Mind!!!!!!) Anyway, You care of it only coz you are. So continue the topic.

The first person who drew my attention and think that he is a really good actor is Dustin Hoffman. (德斯汀荷夫曼) Be honest, I notice him coz he is one of the actors who won the Oscar Best Leading Actor twice. In some senses, this made me (while I’m still a baby of movie/acting) try to study what is the definition of best actor? (Ho, my goddness, it’s seems I treat it as a science proposition at that time!!!!)

So, what films will be popup in you mind when you thing about Dustin Hoffman? The Graduate? I haven’t born yet! Kramer vs. Kramer? Ummm… It’s good but I already forgotten all the detail of this films. Death of a Salesman? I had borrow it in PolyU but fail to finish it. (Raymond once told that this film really make him what to die coz he was forced to study it in order to prepare for acting an old man) Rain Man? I’haven’t watch it even til now. Outbreak? …… Do you think this films is really Dustin’s cup of tea?

Indeed, the 1st Dustin’s film I watch completely is Tootsie. Weird? May be. But compared with Robin Williams and many others, Dustin’s female look and acting is the most non-disgust one. Of course, beautiful actress - Jessica Lange, still very beautiful at that time, and a wonderful song - It Might Be You also make me enjoy the film more.

Finally, I got some time and commit the 4 input method tables (CangJie 3rd Generation, Quick, Cantonese HK Style and Stroke 5) to SCIM cvs. I suppose I will try to fix the Dayi (大易) input method later.
