亦在此貼上由 Dan Gibson 所作 Ray Charles 演譯,在捷古拉特崩塌時(ジグラット) 放出的《I can’t stop loving you》:

I can’t stop loving you
So I’ve made up my mind
To live in memory
Of such an old lonesome time

I can’t stop wanting you
It’s useless to say
So I’ll just live my life
In dreams of yesterday.

Those happy hours
That we once knew
Though long ago,
They still make me blue

They say that time
Heals a broken heart
But time has stood still
Since we’ve been apart

“Contact” again

I would like to write here again that “Contact” is my most most favorite movies even after several years. Coz the main character Ellie Arroway, acted by Jodie Foster, had display a prefect person that I want to be in my life. Totally stubborn but very tough, And got a great passion on what she dream of. She is really my idol and what a real scientist should be in my mind.

Here is some quote from the movie and to every people who have ever dreaming for searching truth.

Drumlin: What’s wrong with science being practical, even profitable?

Palmer: Nothing, as long as your motive is the search for truth, which is exactly what the pursuit of science is.

Drumlin: I know you can’t see it now, but I’m doing you a favor.

Ellie: That’s great.

Drumlin: You’re far too promising a scientist to be wasting your gifts on this nonsense.

Ellie: Look, I don’t consider what could potentially be the most important discovery of the human race nonsense, ok? There’s 400 billion stars…

Drumlin: …And only two probabilities. One, there is intelligent life out there but it’s so far away you’ll never contact it in your lifetime, and two…

Ellie: You’re making a decision…

Drumlin: …Two, there’s nothing out there but noble gases and carbon compounds, and you’re wasting your time. In the meantime, you won’t be published, you won’t be taken seriously, and your career will be over before it’s begun.

Ellie: So what? It’s my life!

David Drumlin: I know you must think this is all very unfair. Maybe that’s an understatement. What you don’t know is I agree. I wish the world was a place where fair was the bottom line, where the kind of idealism you showed at the hearing was rewarded, not taken advantage of. Unfortunately, we don’t live in that world.

Ellie Arroway: Funny, I’ve always believed that the world is what we make of it.

Executive: We must confess that your proposal seems less like science and more like science fiction.

Ellie Arroway: Science fiction. You’re right, it’s crazy. In fact, it’s even worse than that, it’s nuts. You wanna hear something really nutty? I heard of a couple guys who wanna build something called an airplane, you know you get people to go in, and fly around like birds, it’s ridiculous, right? And what about breaking the sound barrier, or rockets to the moon? Atomic energy, or a mission to Mars? Science fiction, right? Look, all I’m asking is for you to just have the tiniest bit of vision. You know, to just sit back for one minute and look at the big picture. To take a chance on something that just might end up being the most profoundly impactful moment for humanity, for the history… of history.

Michael Kitz: Your having sent this announcement all over the world may well constitute a breach of national security.

Ellie Arroway: This isn’t a person-to-person call. You can’t possibly think that a civilization sending this kind of message would intend it just for Americans.

Michael Kitz: I’m saying you might have consulted us; obviously, the contents of this message could be extremely sensitive.

Ellie Arroway: You want to classify prime numbers?

Palmer Joss: What are you studying up there?

Ellie Arroway: Oh, the usual. Nebulae, quasars, pulsars, stuff like that. What are you writing?

Palmer Joss: The usual. Nouns, adverbs, adjective here and there.

[Ellie challenges Palmer to prove the existence of God]

Palmer Joss: Did you love your father?

Ellie Arroway: What?

Palmer Joss: Your dad. Did you love him?

Ellie Arroway: Yes, very much.

Palmer Joss: Prove it.

Ellie Arroway: Dad, do you think there’s people on other planets?

Ted Arroway: I don’t know, Sparks. But I guess I’d say if it is just us… seems like an awful waste of space.

Palmer Joss: By doing this, you’re willing to give your life, you’re willing to die for it. Why?

Ellie Arroway: For as long as I can remember, I’ve been searching for something, some reason why we’re here. What are we doing here? Who are we? If this is a chance to find out even just a little part of that answer… I don’t know, I think it’s worth a human life. Don’t you?

Alien: You’re an interesting species, an interesting mix. You’re capable of such beautiful dreams and such horrible nightmares. You feel so lost, so cut off, so alone, only you’re not. See, in all our searching, the only thing we’ve found that makes the emptiness bearable is each other.

Ellie Arroway: I had an experience, I can’t proof and can’t explain, but everything that I know as a human being, tells me that it was real. I was giving something wonderful, that changed me forever. A vision of the universe, that tells us undeniably, that we belong to something that is greater then ourselves, and that none of us are alone.

Bush

So it is the policy of the United States to seek and support the growth of democratic movements and institutions in every nation and culture, with the ultimate goal of ending tyranny in our world.

Return of The King Extended Edition

Finally, the full sets of Lord of The Ring Extended Edition (12 DVDs) was arrived! Wow! ^O^ And I have just finished the Extended Edition (EE) of Return of The King. After compared the price of the local edition and the amazon’s region 1 edition, I decided to order it from amazon before X’mas.

As many know, the EE of Return of The King add 50 mins more on the theatre edition. Many very short new scene have been added. The first long new scene I saw is the death of Saruman. While Peter Jackson don’t play the chapter of The Scouring of the Shire in the original novel, Saruman need to be died in Isengard. It’s hard to describe how amazing when I first saw the Minas Tirith in the theatre. The EE also add few more amazing shot of the great white city. ) Many shot are added to describe the thought of few characters, likes the self-abasement of Theoden, the guilt of Gandalf on sending Frodo to an impossible journal and the adamantine of Aragorn.

The one I would like to complain is the scene of the conversation between Eowyn and Merry. Eowyn was tried to take Merry to Gondor and hide in the Rohan army. However, she took off her helm during the conversation which let every body know a girl was in the army. Besides, the EE never explain why Denethor is so insane and even don’t mention that he also own a Palantíri. Another big bug is that it didn’t mention why all the horses disappear and the number of soldier drop a lot suddenly during Aragon fight in front of the Black Gate.

A Bovine Guide to Political Theory from The Utne Reader:

Feudalism: You have two cows. Your lord takes some of the milk.

Fascism: You have two cows. The government takes both, hires you to take care of them, and sells you the milk.

Pure socialism: You have two cows. The government takes them and puts them in a barn with everyone else’s cows. You have to take care of all the cows. The government gives you as much milk as you need.

Pure communism: You have two cows. Your neighbors help you take care of them, and you all share the milk.

Bureaucratic socialism: You have two cows. The government takes them and puts them in a barn with everyone else’s cows. They are cared for by ex-chicken farmers. You have to take care of the chickens the government took from the chicken farmers. The government gives you as much milk and as many eggs as the regulations say you should need.

Russian communism: You have two cows. You have to take care of them, but the government takes all the milk.

Pure democracy: You have two cows. Your neighbors decide who gets the milk.

Representative democracy: You have two cows. Your neighbors pick someone to tell you who gets the milk.

American democracy: The government promises to give you two cows if you vote for it. After the election, the president is impeached for speculating in cow futures.

Capitalism: You have two cows. You sell one and buy a bull.

Local governmental capitalism: The government condemns your cows under rights of eminent domain, knocks them over, and allows the mall to expand its parking lot.

Hong Kong capitalism: You have two cows. You sell three of them to your publicly listed company, using letters of credit opened by your brother-in-law at the bank ,then execute a debt-equity swap with associated general offer so that you get all four cows back, with a tax deduction for keeping five cows. The milk rights of six cows are transferred via a Panamanian intermediary to Cayman Islands company secretly owned by the majority shareholder who sells the rights to all seven cow’s milk back to the listed company. The annual report says that the company owns eight cows, with an option on one more. Meanwhile, you kill the two cows because the feng shui is bad.

Totalitarianism: You have two cows. The government takes them and denies they ever existed. Milk is banned.

Anarchism: You have two cows. Either you sell the milk at a fair price or your neighbors try to kill you and take the cows.

Dictatorship: You have two cows. The government takes both and shoots you.

Surrealism: You have two giraffes. The government requires you to take harmonica lessons.

I’m back

Yes, I’m back but now in Zhuhai again. I had arrived HK around 4:30am on 5th July (I saw Greece holding the cup when I back home) and online around 6:00am. But I’m busy to setup my photo gallery and haven’t wrote anything til now. So, I haven’t mention that where I have gone. I take some AL and goto Silk Road for vacation. From 26th June to 4th July, “9″ days trip. And I haven’t online for more then 9×24 hours - my new record.

Indeed, I decided I should have a vacation this summer long time ago but never confirm the date and location. One of my choice is London. Coz I would like to watch Les Miserable again. A Musical trip which is attractive enough to make me throw out everything and take a real rest. But Raymond and Danny, my friends in PolyU Drama Society, ask me if I would like to goto Silk Road with them in mid-June. Then I decide postpone my Musical trip to next year.

Observer and time

Feel days ago, I give a psychological test to my sister. I ask her to guess when she ask me which type am I. She guess 5, the observer or thinker. It is right that I always got many thing in my mind and sometimes I will feel interest to understand how the world work but my mark on type 5 is NOT high. When I saw the description of 5, I remember a story by Zhang Xi Guo (張系國) in his science-fiction collection Music of the Night.

The story is talk about a girl met a strange Taxi driver who lent her a device which can make her time run faster or slower. She need to make her time run slower then others to store some time. Then she turn her time run faster to retrieve she stored when she need time. The driver only ask her to give the device back to him one year later and give all the time remain at that time to him as his revenue.

One year later, the driver told the girl the purpose of collecting so much time. The driver said he had already collect ten thousand years and plan to use it go around the world and read every books in order to the truth of the world.

As most science-fiction about time, you can imagine how they walk around the street and saw every body and thing just stand and stop without any movement. They were similar to god who can observe the world with minimum affect on it. (If they are careful)

When I’m young, I also got a similar thought that it is great if I can read all the books in the world and know every thing. It is really interesting if I got ten thousand years time to do that. But I think I would not got such a kind of patient to be alone for such a long time. Chopping it into a thousand of ten years might be a good idea. ;P

Debian

CSS Template

Ent!?

vim

LoTR Musical

Jogging and english novel

I have begin to jog every morning when I’m in zhuhai. I’m not intent to lose some body fat but having some sport is better for me. I wish I can keep it.

Besides, I think I haven’t mention that I had already finish the fellowship of the rings last week. Ok, I know I’m very slow but it is a good start for me. Have I told that I haven’t read more then 2 chapter of any english novel since I left my secoundary school (I can only finish tech/sci english book). LoTR is already a record for me and I sure that it will be my first finished english novel.

With the help of PDA, I think I will keep finish at least 1 english fiction per 2 month in future.

Gnome 2.6 translation

My progress of LoTR is very slow recently coz I’m busy on Gnome 2.6 translation and Stardict Debian Package in these recently news. To help to standardize the translation, I spend a few hours to write a PO searching engine which allow people to see how others translate the same terms.

My progress on LoTR is pretty slow. I have already finished the book I (that Frodo reach Rivendell) before the lunar new year.
