Google Mobile

Next toy!?

When Bunny and many people switch to iBook, I start to consider which will be my next toy. iBook is attractive and MacOS X got many innovative design which is worth to port to Gnome. However, Jobs’ decision to move Mac to Intel really stop me to be the last lamb or first white rats.

Mike Beattie’s blog remind me that TabletPC is another road that FreeDesktop should go. Having a TabletPC sound interesting. Compaq TC series is always the Tablet PC should be in my mind. Detachable keyboard and handy enough. However, it still using celeron. It sounds it already support GNU/Linux slightly well. WirelessLAN, bluetooth, Pen, special key run pretty well. But the suspend mode is still crap and no one have information to make the SD/MMC reader work. BTW, wish they work when I got the money. Before that, I would like to mark the related information down and aware the exists of Tablet Application under GNU/Linux.

Zaurus got another new model SL-C3100, cost about HKD5800, pretty expensive.

Linux 2.6.5 and 2.6.6

Besides stardict, I spend sometime on reading the new feature Linux 2.6.6 on 14th night. It seems that 2.6.6 got some interesting thing like “laptop-mod” and CFQ and worth to have a try.

As I have mention, my HDD was damage and I have to re-install everything these few weeks, including kernel 2.6. I haven’t backup my Linux 2.6.x .config before the HDD damage. It spent me several hours to re-select the suitable configuration for my Thinkpad x30. This time, I decided to upload my configuration for backup and sharing even it is not prefect yet. If you also using the IBM Thinkpad x30, you can find my compiled Linux 2.6.5 here. It works with all my extra devices including:

  • Palm Tungstun T3
  • Truly MP3 Player MP378
  • Buffalo PCMCIA Wireless LAN WLI-PCM-L11
  • EagleTec CF 5in1 card reader

I keep using APM while I found the software suspend in 2.6.0 doesn’t work. The hibernation of Pheonix BIOS works ok before my HD damage but the notebook spend over 5 mins. to enter the GRUB screen everytime I switch on. It really freaked me out and thought the HD was damaged again. I don’t know why it stalled so long before booting and suspend it is caused by the wrong geometry location of the hibernation partition. But I’m sure it is not the Linux problem. I may need to relocate the partition or move to ACPI and try software suspend again.

No devfs support while it is obsoleted. I decided to try udev later.

Jogging and english novel

I have begin to jog every morning when I’m in zhuhai. I’m not intent to lose some body fat but having some sport is better for me. I wish I can keep it.

Besides, I think I haven’t mention that I had already finish the fellowship of the rings last week. Ok, I know I’m very slow but it is a good start for me. Have I told that I haven’t read more then 2 chapter of any english novel since I left my secoundary school (I can only finish tech/sci english book). LoTR is already a record for me and I sure that it will be my first finished english novel.

With the help of PDA, I think I will keep finish at least 1 english fiction per 2 month in future.

Clie Skin

I suppose haven’t mention that I have bought the clie 3 weeks ago. It’s really a cool machine. And you can change skin of the virtual graffiti. Here is some site for it:

You can see high-quality (320×480) movie with it:

But I still haven’t got time to make it work in Linux.

m505

Palm have just release 2 new models. m500 and m505. Noth with expansion slot. But it is so interesting that a reader post in /. that palm does’t named the new model as m404 is a good thing. Otherwise, it will be difficult to find Palm from time to time. ^_*
